St. George

A noble knight fight and kill a ferocious dragon that is afraid of a whole population. The myth of the unequal confrontation between man and beast, between irrational who appears to be the strongest and weakest who apparently has fed many legends and with slight changes and adjustments have been deployed in the imagination of many of the peoples of Europe throughout history.
The source leads to a martyr. On the borderline between history and legend, we know about the martyrdom of St. George is comparable to the remote lands of Cappadocia, under the rule of Diocletian, at the beginning of the fourth century of our era. The son of a noble Christian family, George joined the Roman militia early on noted for his bravery and won the recognition of their superiors. But in 302 a decree of Diocletian against the Christians is George makes rebellion and publicly express their faith and refusal to apostatar. After trial and suffering a martyrdom which lasted seven years, George is facing death with a strength that makes it termed "megalomàrtir" (great martyr).
As the historian Michael Batllori the real saint and legend are mixed and, ultimately, the East will become a martyr saint secular Europe. Which is the germ of all later legends about the saint is called Legenda aurea describing overfall Iacobus of the year 1246 and which has led the Catalan version. This puts the knight of St. George in Silene (in Libya), clashing with a dragon that lives in a pond and freeing the daughter of King engolida to be the beast.

The Catalan tradition leads to the village of Montblanc. Legend has it that a terrible monster who had the authority to walk, fly and swim and had smelly breath, made havoc among the population. Terror, the vilatans thought that if the beast would devour a person every day to satisfy their hunger, leave the rest to live. A macabre lottery decided who should be the victim till the day I was the daughter of the king who saw with horror that you played around it. But riding a white horse was a gentleman called George, who came to freeing the people from the curse of the dragon. Saving the princess, the target was George the dragon Malferit through it with the spear. The village was off the beast and George denied that marry the princess to see that he was not worthy of the honor he disappeared as mysteriously as he had appeared.

A Vallès also have legends, and dragon knight native. Legend of the Dragon of Sant Llorenç del Munt is one of the oldest in the county and some place names of the mountains of Mola is expressly relate. They say more than thousand years, and during the fight between Catalans and Saracens, the latter brought from Africa a monstrous beast that once the fire and were hiding in a cave (the cave of the Dragon), a San Lorenzo del Munt. Count Wilfred the Hairy sent his men to fight this beast to which the village was named as the Brives. The knights, brave commanders by SPES, failed during the flight and lost their horses who were rushed to empty (Salt of Horses). Had to be the very Wilfred the Hairy Who melee fighting with the beast, killing it with a time of launching. Historians such as Joan Montllor Sabadell and Pujal (1874-1960) and more recently Antoni Ferrando Roig and his book-The Valley-Ripoll have come to the dragon legend of Sant Llorenç del Munt.
